Next Volunteer Training Dates
The volunteer training programme runs once every two months , if you are interested and wish to be added to the list for the next training please email diana on diana.thomas@oxfordshire-mind.org.uk, or if you do not have access to email you can call on 01865 263736, she works Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.)

The training day will cover everything you need to know to volunteer with us and is a necessary requirement. Topics covered include mental health awareness; Oxfordshire Mind and its Community Resource Projects and policies; listening and communication skills; boundaries and support.

There are a number of ways that you can volunteer with Oxfordshire Mind:

Increasing Diversity
We have a newly funded project called ‘Increasing Diversity’ which looks to provide opportunities to gain experience in working in mental health settings as well as increasing diversity in our projects to include people from black and minority backgrounds. There are numerous volunteer roles which will provide valuable experience such as; in our Community Resource Projects, Black and Asian Men’s Forum, Housing Service and Benefits for Better Mental Health Service (see below). This funding enables access to extra training and opportunities so please let Diana Thomas Volunteer Development Manager know you are applying under this scheme when you make contact.

Community Resource Projects:
The majority of our Community Resource Projects are open access centres that welcome anyone who seeks support for mental and emotional difficulties. These include people with a diagnosed mental illness and those who are depressed, anxious, suffering from stress or a life crisis, or who just need someone to talk to. We aim to offer opportunities that enable people to develop self esteem, confidence and coping skills. Service users share in responsibility and decision making for the centres, including the appointment of staff.
You can volunteer either as a general volunteer in a Community Resource Project, which involves helping out in the service with whatever is going on and being there to support service users, often chatting to them on a 1:1 basis (this is particularly helpful for people who wish to gain experience of mental health work for future careers). Or you can volunteer with a specific skill, such as cooking, gardening, art or sport. If you have an idea regarding a skill you could offer please use the contact details below.

For more information about our Community Resource Projects, click here.

All volunteers will need to attend a one-day training session, complete a CRB (criminal records) check and provide two references. Further training opportunities are available post placement.

Further volunteering opportunities:

Volunteer in the office, helping the organisation to provide vital information for those with mental health problems.

There are some new exciting opportunities to volunteer with out Benefits for Better Mental Health project. We have three volunteer roles: researcher, administrative support and providing basic beneifts advice and help. Please use the contact details at the top of the page for more information.

Minibus Drivers:
Oxfordshire Mind needs more mini bus drivers to help provide a rural transport service for people who are experiencing mental and emotional health problems. For further information about volunteering to be a minibus driver, please telephone Nicky Clargo on 01865 263733.
