Get Into Reading

Our Get into Reading groups are different to conventional book groups, they are designed to promote wellbeing through the shared experience of reading together. Get into Reading is run by trained facilitators in an informal and friendly setting. The groups meet weekly for the duration of the course and read through a short story and poem with human content which the group can then reflect on. Everyone is welcome, the groups are inclusive and non judgemental. There is no need to be able to read, just listen and enjoy or if you feel able to, you can read a passage with the group. Meet others and gain confidence from reading and exploring literature together!

Participants will learn the Cold Process method, making bars of soap from scratch using vegetable oils, essential oils, natural colorants, and a strong alkali. Participants will learn how to formulate and make soaps with different properties by varying the proportions of particular oils. This is a more advanced technique than the Melt and Pour method and it may be helpful to have taken that course before attending this one. Please talk to Duncan McFarland for advice about this. The soap we make will be organic, and there will be a small charge for materials.
