We are able to run information sessions for free for organisations and groups in Oxfordshire, due to funding from the county council and NHS.

Mental Health Awareness session

Who will benefit? Everyone
Length: 1-2 hours

Description

The introductory session aims to create a better understanding of mental health problems. It also gives an overview of the services and support for people with mental health problems.  
 
Learning outcomes

  • Understanding of mental health problems and how they affect people. 
  • Knowledge of local services support.

 Suggested further training: A 2-day adult Mental Health First Aid course


Mental Health Awareness session for people in a customer facing role

Who will benefit? Staff and volunteers (e.g. advice workers, reception staff, tutors or support workers) 
Length: 2-3 hours

Description

The session aims give an overview of mental health problems including the signs and symptoms of conditions and how they affect people. It will give people the knowledge and confidence to support someone with mental health problems, including signposting to services. 
 
Learning outcomes
  • Greater understanding of mental health problems.
  • Confidence to deal with clients who may be experiencing mental health problems.  
  • Knowledge of mental health services and the ability to signpost to them.
  • Improved customer service, particularly to someone experiencing mental health problems.

Suggested further training: A two-day adult Mental Health First Aid course


 

Five Ways to Wellbeing

Who will benefit?
Everyone
Length: 2-3 hours

Description
 
 
The Five Ways to Wellbeing are to Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. This workshop will introduce the Five Ways to Wellbeing, look at what wellbeing means to us and use the 5 Ways as a way to explore how we can look after and promote our personal wellbeing. The 5 Ways were developed by the New Economics Foundation and has been evidenced to improve wellbeing.
 
Learning outcomes
  • Understanding of mental health and what constitutes good mental wellbeing.
  • Practical steps for participants to maintain your mental wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of the mental health services in the local community in times of distress. 
     

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Who will benefit?
Everyone, particularly someone with limited knowledge of mental health problems.
Length: 2 days (participants must attend both days)
 
Description
The course is a nationally accredited 2-day training course designed to give participants the knowledge and skills to recognise the early signs of mental ill-health and support someone to seek the right help. It covers the signs, symptons and treatment of depression, anxiety and psychosis (particularly bi-polar disorder or schizophrenia). On completion of the course you will received a Mental Health First Aid (England) certificate.
 
Learning Outcomes
  • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and psychosis.
  • Knowledge and confidence to support people experiencing mental health problems to seek the right help.
  • Knowledge and confidence to help someone who is feeling suicidal.

We also deliver shorter mental health awareness talks and run information stands at community events as requested. These help us to raise awareness of mental health problems and Mind's services in Oxfordshire.
