Housing Pathway Project on the Response Website

Access to independent housing

The Aim:

To encourage and support people in contact with Community Mental Health Teams in Oxfordshire to:

  • Access Choice based lettings
  • Apply to district council rent deposit schemes
  • Access suitable private rented housing

Why a Housing Pathway Project?

Supported housing services will have an increased focus on recovery, move on and independence.

There will also be less units of accommodation-based supported housing, so increased need to use all housing options such as private rented accommodation.

How will support be offered?

  • A housing pathway pack explaining the process around accessing social housing tenancies, rent deposit schemes and private rented accommodation in Oxfordshire.
  • Advice sessions regarding independent housing options to service users and staff in CMHTs, wards and supported housing
  • Offering service users practical support with the processes
  • Building up a team of peer volunteers who, using their own move-on experience, can offer expert support to service users
  • Creating good links with private landlords and with district council housing staff
